Flipping through some old magazines last night.... Came across this old beauty. Britney Spears in her prime, before Hollywood chewed her up and spit her out. We all remember the young, talented, innocent Britney that people fell in love with everywhere. Back in her "Baby one more time" days, she was the ultimate teenage icon. Girls wanted to be her, and guys wanted to date her.
It was no surprise that Polaroid wanted to advertise their "I-Zone" camera using none other than singing sensation pop idol Britney Spears. Today, this ad is currently 12 years old, and a lot has changed with the singer/songwriter over the years. Apparently, this was her first celebrity endorsement known to her career, but was unable to see exactly how much she was paid for the Polaroid advertisements.
Her career has been a whirlwind of tabloids, failed marriage, children, and criticism from the public eye. It's so sad to see that someone who was once so innocent, become tainted by fortune and fame. She has endorsed many products since her Polaroid debut, but from 06'-08' her meltdown prevented her from having any offers to endorse brands for a solid two, almost three years.
Since 09' things have been looking up again for Britney, but what I am trying to understand is what a brand such as Polaroid or Pepsi determine what celebrity is appropriate or most suitable to represent their brand. Do you believe if Britney was going through her mid-life crisis around the time these ads were released, do you think she would have been chosen to represent Polaroid? Her image in the ad portrays the Britney we once knew, not the one we know today. People change, does that mean a brands image does as well?
